Bushehr

Bushehr province covers an area of 23,168 km2 and lies on the coast of the Persian Gulf. It is surrounded by the provinces of Khouzestan and Kohgilouye-va-Boirahmad on the north, the Persian Gulf and Hormozgan province on the south, Persian Gulf on the west and Fars on the east. This province has a capital by the same name and its other major towns are Dashtestan, Dashti, Dayyer, Deylam, Genaveh, Kangan and Tangestan.
In 1996, the population of Bushehr province was 743,675. The major produce of Bushehr are dates, citrus fruits, wheat, grain and tobacco. Because it has a long coast on the Persian Gulf (about 600 km), fishing is one of the essential activities of this province. Iran’s only atomic power plant, which is presently under construction, lies in this province. The major industries of Bushehr are those of chemicals, foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals.
The climate of this province is warm and humid in the coastal regions, and warm and dry in the northern parts. The average temperature in Bushehr is 26.6°C in spring, 32.2°C in summer, 22.7°C in autumn, and 15.8°C in winter.
In a study carried out over a 30-year period, the average temperature of this province was established to be 24.5°C; average relative humidity at 06:30 hours, 77%, and at 12:30 hours, 51%; average annual rainfall, 237.1 mm; maximum amount of rainfall over a single day, 150 mm; average number of hours of sunshine over the entire year, 3,062.9; maximum wind speed, 29 meters per second, blowing in the direction of 240°.
The temperature in Bushehr has never fallen below 0°C. This province, which is considered to be one of the warmest and most humid provinces of Iran, has a relatively moderate climate in winter. Bushehr is also subject to seasonal winds of the Persian Gulf which sometimes cause heavy damages.

Bushehr City

Bushehr port, the capital of the province, lies at a distance of 1,215 km from Tehran and is one of the major ports in the south of Iran. Because of the strategic importance of the Persian Gulf and its economic and commercial aspects, Iranian and foreign governments have always considered Bushehr as one of the most prominent Iranian cities.
Khark island was captured by the Dutch in 16th century. The naval force of England also occupied Borazjan and Bushehr late 19th century. Rais Ali Delvari, the Iranian constitutionalist, fought against England’s naval force in 1913 and was martyred in this cause.
Because of its commercial relations with the other parts of the world, Bushehr was one of the first cities of Iran where the symbols of modernity such as the newspaper, printing and electricity appeared.
A special form of the couplet, known as Sharveh, which has mainly love poems contexts, is popular in this province. Faez Dashtestani and Maftoon are the famous past composers of these poems.

Handicrafts

The main handicraft of this province is Gabbeh, a particular type of carpet which is woven using sheep wool and goat hair. Other major industries of Bushehr are felt making, mat-making, kilim weaving, carpet weaving and net weaving
